Embracing the Holiness of God

Embracing the Holiness of God

June 2025 - Brenda H. Price

There are times when we become so overwhelmed with the things life throws at us that we display attributes that do not match our character. Perhaps we don’t feel like loving and don’t feel like we are loved. Maybe there are times when we feel unappreciated and disrespected. Sometimes we may be weak, weary, fretful or even afraid. These feeling are real, inevitable and can certainly make us feel exhausted.

Personally speaking, I’ve needed God to help me love the unlovable. I’ve needed His holiness when my thoughts were impure and unrighteous. I’ve needed His forgiveness when I have sinned in my heart. And the lists could go on and on.

It’s times like these that we need the power of the Almighty God to help us through them. These are the times we need to embracethe Holiness of God. We need God to impute all His characteristics into us and upon us, because we cannot walk in them on our own. That is what the scripture means when Jesus tells us “His strength is made perfect in weakness.” (See II Corinthians 12:9)

Embrace – means to cherish, love, to take up readily or gladly; acceptance; to take in or include as a part or element.

Embracing God’s holiness involves understanding His moral purity and righteousness and striving to reflect His qualities in our lives. It is our journey of transformation, aligning our actions, thoughts and relationships with God’s will. As we do so, we become more aware of how much we need His grace and mercy. Embracing the holiness of God also means:

· Growing in Character – allowing God’s Spirit to transform us shaping us into the likeness of Christ.

· Recognizing our need for His Grace – because we cannot achieve holiness on our own.

· We are fulfilling God’s purpose – because we are called to holy because God is holy. Living a holy life fulfills His purpose for us and in us.

· Better witness to the world – as we become a more powerful testimony to His transforming power and His love and grace.

The Bible also tells us in the book of Galatians:

Galatians 6:9 - And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season,we shall reap, if we faint not.

Two words stand out to me in this passage of scripture. They are ‘weary’ and ‘due season’. Let’s explore.

Weary – means to lose heart; becoming discouraged or give up.

Due season – is God’s appointed time for the harvest.

‘Be not weary in well doing’ encourages believers not to lose heart or give up when doing good because there will be a time of reward for those efforts. It emphasizes perseverance and trust in God’s timing. It’s important for us to persevere and keep our faith in God’s timing even when we are faced with challenges or delays. We must continue to do good even when it’s difficult or results are not immediately apparent. There is a time for sowing, and a time for reaping.

Be not weary is also a call to steadfastness and a reminder that God’s blessings will come at the right time for those who persevere in doing good.

Summary:

Embracing God’s holiness is a lifelong journey of faith, growth, and transformation. It’s all about recognizing God’s perfect holiness, acknowledging our need for His grace and striving to reflect His character in all aspects of our lives. Cherish it, love it, and live!
